Mai-chan's Daily Life: The Movie

cr: 30 July 2025

I finally watched it with my friend Arkady. The movie didn't follow the manga faithfully but that's not an issue. I thought it was fun though it's just porn, again. I like how surreal the lighting and editing were sometimes. It was pretty pleasing in that regard.

The story this time is told through Miyako's perspective who worked alongside Mai as a maid in a big house. It gets pretty gay honestly. That's pretty great ♥ It's literally lesbian gore torture... But there's like, one thing I have a problem with.

Okay I'm glad they didn't follow the manga one-to-one, but did they really have to add this "master" character? Like there's just a guy in a wheelchair who Ms. Kaede calls "master". If I recall correctly, the manga never had "master", or at least they never showed one and it was never a prominent character. If anything, Ms. Kaede was the master.

I just find this quite misogynistic; my fault for being disappointed I guess, since this is Mai-chan we're talking about, literally a manga where a girl lives just to suffer in the hands of others (who somehow also wants to be a mother despite everything? I was not able to point out how anti-victim of a sentiment that was in my previous Mai-chan entry.)

Despite everything, we had a lesbian gore movie in our hands—almost. It's so bad it's hilarious. This master guy literally does nothing but sit there. I cannot take anything seriously because of him. He was so obviously meant to play the token "man", like mastermind of like, the girl-on-girl torture somehow? He had one scene where he was measuring Miyako's naked body with a tape measure when they were assessing whether they'd give her the maid job, as though to show his authority over these maids. He doesn't do anything or say anything else, he's just there during the torture scenes watching, I guess. And I guess he owns the mansion they clean, and bought all the torture stuff?

And the way they include him in the film is so funny, I couldn't pay attention to the gore. The camera would cut randomly to the guy's face in the middle of a bloody scene, like they want us to know how fascinated this guy is. And he's like leaning over his seat trying to get a better look at the girls because Ms. Kaede is too busy to wheel him over closer or something. Obviously he's like a stand in for the audience, a male voyeur slash mastermind of it all, because no way that a girl like Ms. Kaede exist, right? A girl who likes torturing other girls? Who encourages extreme lust for another girl? Introducing this "master" guy that Ms. Kaede serves drives such points: "Ms. Kaede is only doing this because the guy told her to. Only men can like hurting girls like this. Girls are too pure, they can't cut each other up like this." Seriously, why is he even here if not for those reasons exactly.

It's not a good movie but it was fun to watch because of how ridiculous it is. Don't expect more than just gore porn. Understand how stupid the guy master is and make fun of him. He's the reason I enjoyed the watch anyway. There's likely better lesbian gore out there so if you want something that doesn't annoyingly cater to the male gaze, then look somewhere else.
